Welcome. Everyday, people in the heartland who are affected by ALS provide inspiring examples of courage and grace as they face this terrible disease.
At ALS in the Heartland, we aim to enhance the quality of life of all people affected by ALS whom we help serve, to heighten community awareness of this devastating disease, and to strengthen public and legislative support in the fight against ALS. Our services include in-home consultations, support groups, community resources and referrals, an equipment program and a respite care voucher program. In 2008 ALS in the Heartland is beginnning a Skills for Grief Therapy Program and expanding our Mobility Program.

Roger Poulin
Roger Poulin, of Bellevue, Nebraska, is a U.S. Air Force veteran and former pilot for Comair. His wife, Dolores, advocated for the ALS Registry Act on Capitol Hill in May 2007. Their children are Mike, of Omaha, and Michelle Rasschaert, of Minneapolis.
Artist Mark Gilbert, of Glasgow, Scotland, completed this portrait of Roger. It's part of the UNMC Patient Portraiture Project with Ethics Approval. In January 2009 the Portraiture Project will open at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. |
