Stephanie and Brett Heffes

Recently, ALS in the Heartland received a very kind gesture from the granddaughter of someone who passed away from ALS. Stephanie and Brett Heffes were married October 21, 2011 at Windsong Farm Golfclub in Minneapolis.  Instead of giving wedding favors to their guests, they chose to make a donation to ALS in the Heartland in honor of the bride’s grandfather, James (Mac) McCarville.

They kept this a surprise to their guest and this is what the program read:

“We would like extend a big thank you to our family and friends for sharing in this very special day with us and for traveling both near and far. We are truly blessed to have your love, support and friendship. We hope that you have a wonderful time and we look forward to sharing many more happy occasions with you in the years to come. In lieu of wedding favors, we will be making a donation to ALS in love and remembrance of Stephanie’s grandfather James “Mac” McCarville and in honor of our friends battling this disease.”

Stephanie told us, “Obviously this was very dear to our hearts, but I also want to let you know that many of our guests (not only family) were very touched by this gesture.  Hopefully our story will inspire others to do the same.”

Do you have a unique idea for raising funds? We’d love to hear about it!
